Good morning,
It’s Reccie Friday and you know what that means, don’t you? Recommendations. That’s right. You got it. You knows it. And here they come, recommendations galore…
But first, woah. Hold up! What’s this?! It’s another New Cue live event, that’s what. This time, it’s not live music. It’s not live music and talk. It’s live talk. It’s real talk. It’s deep talk. It’s incisive talk. It’s talk of hard-won experience. It’s hopefully very indiscreet talk. It’s our first Paper Cuts live event.
Oh, what’s Paper Cuts? That’s Ted Kessler’s reveal all-memoir out on July 21. Paper Cuts: How I Destroyed The British Music Press and Other Misadventures. It’s really good. You can pre-order it here if you’re interested.
Anyway, for this first Paper Cuts live event Ted will bring music print LEGENDS Sylvia Patterson and Tom Doyle into the chat arena to reveal the gory details of their journeys through Smash Hits, Q, The Face, NME, Mojo and beyond…Laura Barton (also a legend) will play records. Ted might read a chapter, the first outing for the book. And afterwards we’ll have some lovely spring-time New Cue drinks on the pavement upstairs. Let’s call it a party. Come along! We have five pairs of tickets for any subscribers who reply to our email address (thenewcue1@gmail.com) with the heading Paper Cuts Tickets. Everyone else can pick up tickets for £4.99 at www.thenewcue.co.uk.
Chris is away for today’s edition, but instead we’ve got the supremely-talented duo Ibeyi in his place telling us all about their new single and forthcoming record, plus Ted and Niall have loadsa Recommender picks for you to get stuck into. You see that big ‘orrible thing approaching? You do, don’t you? You’re muttering to yourself… ‘what… what the hell is that?’. It’s a paywall. Do yourself a favour and click Subscribe Now to become a paid subscriber for £5 a month and you’ll never have to see that monstrosity again. Here’s a playlist of all the tunes we’re saluting today for you to tuck into. Our pleasure!
Enjoy the edition,
Ted, Niall and Chris
