The New Cue #274: Jenny Lewis, Eddie Chacon, Studio 68, The Invisible, A Certain Ratio, Damien Jurado, Boygenius, Jungle, DMAs, hey! We're going to Barbados...
31 March, 2023
Well hello there,
It’s Friday, it’s the eve of the school holidays and Niall is currently - I cannot believe that I am writing these words - aboard a once-in-a-lifetime cruise of the Caribbean with his family, including in-laws. But he has nevertheless sent in his Recommender copy while waiting to leave for the airport, the absolute ledge.
He won’t be able to knock a Reccie up from the deck for next Friday’s edition, but luckily for him there will be no edition next Friday because it’s Good Friday, a day of God-based rest, and the morning that follows Maundy Thursday, “the second biggest night of the year” as our very good friend Matt Turner of Mojo used to describe it. Any night that precedes four days off should be made to count.
Alright, enough chit-chat. Time to recommend for our paying subscribers, whose generosity allows us to keep pumping out two New Cues every week. We are very grateful. Thank you. Here, have a playlist of some of the music written about today (couple of records aren’t available on streaming sites yet). I’ve forgotten the login for The New Cue Spotify account in Niall’s absence, so it’s on mine.
See you on Monday for an interview with Feist, that Chris needs to get on with transcribing, please.
Enjoy this edition, please.
Ted, Niall and Chris.
An Album To Blow Your Mind
D’Angelo’s peerless soul opus, as chosen by The Invisible’s Dave Okumu.
