The New Cue #276: James Holden, Nathan Fake, Bonny Doon, Malcolm Middleton, Shirley Collins, Black Thought, King Krule, Xiu Xiu
14 April, 2023
Good morning,
Don’t call it comeback! Because for Niall it is not. He’s still in Barbados. But we’re here, Chris and Ted, putting together your Friday Recommender edition together as best we can without Mr Hilarious (as Niall’s wife sometimes calls him, no doubt with great affection for his relentless wit). We miss him, of course we do. But we must endure for one more week without him.
I’ve very bravely resisted putting Edgar Jones’ soul-quaking new single Torture (backed with the furious Lord Give Me Strength, both out today on Stereopar) in my Recommendations this morning, because we’ll be running an interview with him a week on Monday and I need to keep our powder dry for that. Oh, go on then.
What’s that Lassie? You like the music and want to see it played live in a packed basement with an amazing soundsystem? I think, yes, there are a few tickets still left for our special Edgar Jones ‘Reflections Of A Soul Dimension’ album launch gig at London’s Social on May 3rd with support from the Liverpool’s modern master of verse Roy, and DJs including Jeff Barrett of Heavenly Recordings, Ben Ayres of Cornershop and The New Cue Soundsystem. See you there.
In the meantime, thank you to everyone able to subscribe, your generosity enables us to produce this newsletter twice a week. This one is for you. We’ll see everyone else on Monday. Have a playlist for this Recommender.
Enjoy the edition,
Ted, Niall and Chris
