Good Friday!
Is it? Not sure, too early to tell really. Let’s just agree it’s going to be a good Friday and make it so. Not the Good Friday though, that’s when Jesus dies and he’s already done it once this year and he doesn’t want to do it again, I just asked him.
Welcome to your weekly Recommender edition, which is what your cheapskate mate calls “oh, that one you have to pay for because The New Cue actually want to make some money out of this so that they don’t have to eat teabags for breakfast anymore” – yes, that’s the one! In today’s edition, we’ve got two mind-blowers courtesy of punk trio Dream Wife and the Oscar-nominated (ooooh!) composer (ooooh!) Emile Mosseri. And lots of Recommending in between, of course, we didn’t forget that bit, that would be stupid and we’re certainly not that. If we were stupid we wouldn’t have remembered to put this week’s playlist in would we?:
This paragraph was written really quickly because it’s time for lunch. Bye bye, enjoy the edition!

An Album To Blow Your Mind #1
Dream Wife bassist Bella Podpadec picks the one and only album by cult London duo Rexy.
London trio Dream Wife release their excellent third album Social Lubrication today. It’s their most ferocious effort yet, a takedown of misogyny and machismo delivered in short, sharp bursts of bristling punk-funk. Have a listen, it’ll clear out the cobwebs:
Their sound evokes the grimy fun of mid-00s London clubs but bassist Bella Podpadec has gone back much further than that with her mind-blower pick, choosing the goth-tinged pop of early eighties duo Rexy:

Running Out Of Time (1981)
“Running Out Of Time was originally released in ’81 and is the one and only album to come out of the musical collaboration between Rex Nayman (one of the fashionista club kids of 80's London Blitz Kids scene) and Vic Martin (a rock’n’roller thru n thru). On the request of legend Samantha Urbani of the band Friends, our label Lucky Number did a limited re-release of this cult classic in 2016. It's truly a mini masterpiece of an album and I’m incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to listen to this surreal, hilarious, funky, pop gem. It's a sweet romp and a wild ride and you never know quite what's coming next - all the while managing to maintain an easy pop sensibility and very juicy synths! 10/10 ! Go listen!”
