The New Cue #481 April 4: David Longstreth, Yann Tiersen, Stranded Horse, NYX, Jenny Hval, Wet Leg, Wu Lyf, Black Country, New Road
"Get rid of capitalism!"
Good morning,
Welcome to your regular Friday blast of new music reccies and Release Valve jibber-jabber. This bit is actually being written on a Thursday but I’m channelling that Friday vibe. I live every morning like it’s a Friday, except Monday because it feels like a Sunday, Wednesday because it feels like a Monday and Friday because it feels like a Thursday. Bloody hell, I know how to have a laugh.
But I’ll tell you one thing that’s not funny, and that’s the fact that if you are reading this but you are not a paying subscriber to The New Cue, then your journey ends here. You’re not even in reception yet, you’re in a holding cell before reception. We’re going to give you a little peek at the bonanza that awaits you, but then it’ll be time for you to go home. You can remedy this by becoming a fully-fledged subscriber below. It costs £5 a month and it means we get to make a little moolah from this whole endeavour. We want that and you want that too. Even if you don’t know you want it, you do.
Here's this week’s playlist:
Finally, Ted made a boo-boo with the email link for John Harris’s Maybe I’m Amazed book competition on Wednesday. So, congratulations to Richard Bowes and Richard Dunne (the former QPR, Man City and Villa centre back?) who were the quickest to navigate this obstacle. We’ll pass your details on to the author.
Enjoy the edition,
Ted and Niall
Release Valve #1: Yann Tiersen
There is a beautiful and calming new record titled Rathlin From A Distance released by French composer Yann Tiersen today. It’s a serene experience that can only be made more rewarding by reading his answers to our RV questions:
The first record I loved was… The first record I bought and loved was 'Organisation' by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
The last record I loved was… Actually it's the new Upsammy EP 'Open Catalyst', it's a four-track, normally it's quite slow tempo but it's more drum and bass, this one is really really good I'm really a fan of her work.
The musician I grew up most wanting to be is… Thurston Moore, to play guitar as he is.
