Good morning,
Welcome to week three of our Wednesday New Cue Masterclass about Music Book Publishing (that’ll be £159 with a £7.99 booking fee, thank you. Oh no, sorry, that’s The Guardian. We charge £5 a month and you receive three newsletters like this a week for that, twelve a month. I mention this because we have a paywall up after this introduction knee-trembler: our subs get the full luxurious package on Wednesdays and Fridays; Mondays are free for all to enjoy ). This week we have the grand fromage, the Big Daddy of the genre; the ringmaster, the guru, the high priest, the sinister Mr Big of music books: Lee Brackstone, publisher of White Rabbit.
Since launching White Rabbit in April 2020, he has delivered big-selling memoirs from Bobby Gillespie, Carl Cox, Mark Lanegan, Annie Nightingale, Robbie Krieger and Stevie Van Zandt, as well as more esoteric explorations about foghorns, nature and heavy drone music. Before White Rabbit, Lee worked as an editor and publisher at Faber (for 23 years, numerology fans) and launched their music imprint Faber Social, publishing landmarks by the likes of Viv Albertine, Neil Tennant and The Beastie Boys. So he knows what he’s talking about.
It’s all here: the how, the why and the inspiration. As Lee says, if he can do it, you can too. Join us next Wednesday for another music book masterclass, just as long as I get the questions out in time. Before then, we’ll see you for our Recommender Friday. Thanks again for subscribing. Please tell your friends.
Ted, Niall and Chris.
